Question:
What operating systems does your software support?
Answer:
ExpressMaintenance will
run under Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP, 2003 and Vista. However, certain requirements
exist as outlined below.
Operating
Systems Supported
Windows 95 & 98 - You must have revision B and you may need a newer
version of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) -
Windows NT - You must have at least service pack 4.
Windows 2000 & Windows XP -
No
special requirements unless you are running XP Home edition in which
case
you must install the Microsoft
Data Access Components (MDAC) available from our website -
Windows 2003 - You must use MSDE 2000 (available at no
charge from us) or SQL 2000 database engine, with service pack 3.
You can also use the SQL 2005 Express database engine. For details, see our tech bulletin -
Windows Vista - You
must run the newer SQL 2005 Express database engine (available at no
charge from Microsoft website). For more information on SQL 2005
Express Database and for a link to download the install -
Windows ME - Cannot
install the MSDE database engine but can run the client program.
Novell Netware -
See heading below.
Citrix Terminal Services - ExpressMaintenance
will run under Citrix Software and Terminal Services as we have many
clients using the software in those environments.
To see what version
of Windows you are running, click on the Windows Start Button / Control
Panel / System. The General tab should display the version of
windows and any services packs or revisions.
SQL Database Engine
Notes
The MSDE, MSDE2000
and SQL 2005 Express are all version of SQL Server that are available at
no charge from our website or Microsoft website. For more
information -

The OpenGL screen savers have a terrible
effect on server performance. When selecting a Windows screen
saver for a server computer, we advise that you not install any screen
savers. We recommend that you only use the "Blank Screen" screen saver
or no screen saver at all. Screen savers consume memory and system
resources.
If installing 2000 Server you will be prompted for the server setup,
select Stand Alone Server. It is important that you do not make the
system a Primary Domain Controller. Installing Windows 2000 Server as a
Primary Domain Controller will decrease SQL Server performance. You will
not have this option when installing 2000 Professional.
If installing Windows NT (not Windows2000 which is built on NT
technology), you must install at least Service Pack 4 in order for
Microsoft SQL Server to work properly.
Novell Netware
Server
ExpressMaintenance
will run fine on a Novell network and we have many customers using it in
a Novell environment. However, you must install the database
engine and application on a Windows based computer within the network.
You cannot install directly on the Novell server.
You will need to install the database engine on a Windows based computer
but it does not have to be a dedicated server.
