First you will
need to download and the SQL Server database engine and install on
your new server. If you already have SQL Server installed on
the new server you will not need to do this. Otherwise, you
can download SQL Server database engine from our
Direct Downloads Page.
This page will tell you the correct version of SQL Server for your
version of Windows.
-
If you are
installing SQL Server 2000 simply take the defaults on all prompts.
If you are installing SQL Server 2005, we recommend you follow our
recommended installation steps in the
SQL Server 2005 Install
Tech Bulletin. This tech bulletin
also provides required steps for properly starting and configuring
the SQL Server 2005.
-
For Windows 7 or Vista,
you may want to use Microsoft SQL 2008. We have tech bulletin
on Installing SQL 2008.
-
After installing the
SQL Server, you will need to start the SQL Server by selecting the
Start button on the screen with SQL 2000. With SQL 2005 you will need
to follow steps in above referenced tech bulletin.
-
Follow the
instructions in the tech bulletin at the following link to get your
old database setup on the new SQL Server -
Tech Bulletin For Old Data
Setup..
-
Next you need to
download the latest release of ExpressMaintenance and ExpressRequest
(if purchased) from our
Direct Downloads Page.
Save the download files on the new server hard drive in the desired
folder.
-
Run the
ExpressMaintenance and ExpressRequest (if purchased) install files
to install the applications.
-
At the new server, run
the ExpressMaintenance application. The application should
recognize the ExpressMaintenance database and execute. Be sure
to check the data and insure it is the correct database. Run
ExpressRequest and test as well.
-
If ExpressMaintenance does not recognize the
ExpressMaintenance database, you may need to setup the
ExpressMaintenance.ini and ExpressRequest.ini files. For
details on setting up these files see the
Tech Bulletin Connection
Properties.
-
After editing the
ini files, test ExpressMaintenance again. If
ExpressMaintenance still fails to recognize the SQL Server and
Database, proceed to the Test Connection screen and test using the
that screen. Upon successful connection, use the option to
create the Connection ini file.
