Question:
I cannot login to ExpressMaintenance because I do not know the sa
password or do not have the user setup. How can this be fixed?
Answer:
When ExpressMaintenance is first
delivered, it has one user which is "sa" and a password of
"welcome" or blank (no password) depending
on when the program was ordered. As long as "sa" is the
only user setup, ExpressMaintenance assumes that you are evaluating or do
not want to implement the user / password security and therefore does
not prompt for a user name or password.
Once
additional users are added or the "sa" password is changed, it
then assumes security is desired and begins prompting for these items
before allowing access. If another user has altered the
"sa" user record, you may find yourself locked out of
ExpressMaintenance. For this
reason, it is important to setup the user account with a unique password
and setup other user accounts in ExpressMaintenance if other users are
to be accessing the program.
If
you have reached the point that you cannot login as "sa", you
should try the following two steps to see if the problem can be
resolved:
-
Try to locate the user who altered the "sa" user record and
obtain the password.
-
Try logging into to the program as "sa" using the password of
"welcome" or blank (no password).
If you still cannot login, you
must use the ExpressUtility to reset the "sa" user account and
login. This will definitely allow you to reset the login and
get into the application.
Note: Before you download and run
the ExpressUtility you should make sure you have the latest release of
ExpressMaintenance installed and running on your computer. You can
get the latest release from the
Updates Page. The newest version of ExpressUtility on the website
only works with recent releases of ExpressMaintenance.
The
ExpressUtility program is available from our web site for download.
Click
here to download this utility. Install ExpressUtility on your
computer and then run the program. You will need to enter the
server name, database name and the SQL Server password. You can
likely connect using the "etuser" account and password of "etrik22"
or you can use the SQL 'sa' account if you know the password.
Once entered, click on the Explore Data tab
and then click on the 'Reset sa Login' (Hand & Paper) button in the
upper middle section of the screen. This option will reset the
'sa' account and give permission to Administration and User Accounts.
Once this has been done, you should run ExpressMaintenance and
login as "sa" using the password of "welcome".
Finally, you must go to Administration / Users and edit the
record for "sa" to allow full access to all areas of the program. |
