Question: How
can I get and install the MSDE / SQL7 Service Pack 4?
Answer:
The Service Pack 4 is no longer recommended. We recommend you
use SQL Server 2000 or the MSDE 2000.

Service Pack 4 is an important update that includes security patches as
well as patches for the MSDE7 and Microsoft SQL Server 7. It also
resolves an issue where some slower computers or systems with large
amounts of data, getting a time out error in
the Parts Inventory Analysis screen of ExpressMaintenance. Service Pack 4
includes all previous services packs. To learn more about service

We have compiled the
Service Pack 4 into a separate install program to make the installation
easier for our customers. Our program MSDESvcPack4.exe simply
decompresses the files and executes the actual Microsoft install
(setup.bat). Before downloading and installing the service pack,
you should read the installation instructions below very carefully.

Instructions
For Downloading & Installing
1. You must be at
the sql server computer.
2. You cannot
install from a workstation or remote terminal services.
3. You must be
logged into the computer with full Administrator rights.
4. From the link
below, download the file (42MB) and note the folder where it is
saved.
5. After
downloading, run the file MSDESvcPack4.exe.
6. Click the Next
button to decompress the install files
7. When
decompressing is completed, the Microsoft installation will take over.
8. Proceed with the
Microsoft installation.
9. Once the
installation begins, do not open or switch between windows. A
couple of dialogs will fail to display properly if you change focus to
other windows. This will give the impression that the install is
hung because the prompting dialogs will be hidden and the program will
wait for a response.
10. When prompted
for the security / login method, select the SQL Server authentication
rather than Windows. You can enter an "sa" password or leave it as
blank. We recommend applying a password but be sure to save the
password somewhere.
11. When the
installation is completed, you can remove the folder where the files
were decompressed.
