Question:
How do I download, install and setup ExpressUtility?
Answer:
There are many applications available for direct access to your SQL
server and the databases it contains. Some applications come with
the full version of SQL Server and others are available on the internet
form various vendors.
ExpressUtility is a small program available to Express Technology
customers that is very a very powerful tool for accessing your data and
making queries and bulk deleting
of data.
You can
download ExpressUtility free directly from our website -
:
Once you
download ExpressUtility to your hard drive, run the install program you
downloaded. The file name is EUInstall.exe. Follow the steps
to installing the program.
The install
program will not create a shortcut on the desktop but it will create a
shortcut under Programs / Express Technology. Select and run
ExpressUtility.
When
ExpressUtility opens, you will need to register your SQL Server.
Click on File / Register New Server and the following dialog will
appear:

Enter the
applicable information for your server. You will need to know the
sa (system administrator) password. Once the information is
entered, click Save.
The server
name will appear in the upper left list. Click on the server name
and ExpressUtility will then attempt to connect to the server. If
the server connection fails, check your information entered including
the sa password. It is important that you enter correct
information and that network permissions allow for the connection.
Once the
connection is successful the databases for that server will be listed in
the lower left list. Click on the ExpressMaintenance database to
connect to it as shown below.

You can then
use the Explore Data tab to perform queries, bulk updates and deletes of
data. You can also view table schemas and other important
information. Other tabs allow for importing data, reports and
backup / restore of data.
The SQL query language is very powerful
and virtually unlimited in features that allow you to query and
manipulate data. Use caution when updating or deleting data and
backup your data first.
