Question: How can I export data from ExpressMaintenance?

Answer: ExpressMaintenance includes very flexible features for exporting data and interfacing with other data applications.  The easiest way to export data is by using our built-in report builder.  In addition, because ExpressMaintenance is built upon the MS SQL database engine, data is full yaccessible through common programs such as Excel and Access via ODBC (Open Database Connectivity).  There are dozens of applications that will allow you to query the SQL database and export data or import into other applications such as your accounting software.  You can also use our handy ExpressUtility to query tables and export results.

Report Builder - Exporting Reports

To export the reports to your desired format, simply use your favorite report or design a report to query and present the data as desired.  Next, preview the report and then click the Print button.  When the print dialog is displayed, look in the lower section and check the Print to File option and then select the desired file type and file location.  Options include:

  • Adobe Acrobat pdf

  • HTML

  • Excel

  • Rich Text (Word)

  • Windows Metafile

  • JPEG

  • GIF

  • Text File

  • Bitmap

Report Builder - Exporting Raw Data

To export raw data using the report builder, simply use your favorite report or design a report to query the desired records and fields.  To export the raw data records, click on the Design Tab, click on File / Print To File Setup.  When the dialog screen appears, select the file name, type and bands and fields to be exported.   After closing the Print To File Setup screen, click on the Preview tab and then the Print button.  When the print dialog appears, check the Print to File option. If not already selected, select the file type of Text File and accept or change the destination file name.  Click the OK button and the data will be exported to the selected file.

ExpressUtility

A very simple and easy way to query data and export results is to use the ExpressUtility.  ExpressUtility is available from our website as a free download.  It provides a direct window to your data.  You can then export the raw data to numerous formats.   To download ExpressUtility install program - click here.

ODBC Applications

To export or interface with data via ODBC, simply use the ODBC Data Sources manager in the Control Panel to create a DSN link to the database.  Once connection is made, use your favorite interface application to access the data.  Microsoft Excel includes an optional MS Query tool that will allow you to quickly query data using a DSN / ODBC connection.  You can also use MS Access to query, view and edit data in the SQL database.
