Transferring Data
| 1. | Make sure you have the latest release of ExpressMaintenance installed on the evaluation PC or source computer.
| 2. | In ExpressMaintenance on the PC, click Navigate / Administration / Backup & Restore.
| 3. | Backup the database to a zip file, noting the file and folder names (Backup Tech Bulletin).
| 4. | Copy or transfer the zip file to the new server computer.
| 5. | Install and start the MSDE on the server computer if not already installed. If using your own version of MS SQL Server, see tech bulletin for setting up database - click here. If you are using Windows2003 you will need to install MSDE2000 - click here for details.
| 6. | Install the latest release of ExpressMaintenance on the server computer.
| 7. | It is important that the same version be on the origin and destination computers.
| 8. | Run ExpressMaintenance on the destination server computer to create a new database (first time). The new database will be setup as an evaluation copy and prompt for a serial number and registration code. Ignore this as the serial number and registration code will be obtained when you restore the data.
| 9. | In ExpressMaintenance on the destination server, click on Navigate / Administration / Backup & Restore.
| 10. | Restore the database from the zip file as previously saved on the server computer. Note that the zip file must be on hard drive of the destination computer. It cannot be on a remote drive, zip drive or CD as it must perform decompression before restoring. The restore zip file must be on the new server computer in order to perform the restore.
